If you want to take your business further, you need to understand the importance of a strong email campaign. Mailchimp is basically your new best friend.

Mailchimp is an email campaign tool designed to help businesses connect with their audience by creating engaging content that brings in customers, and analyses those results for continual improvement.

1. Import and Consolidate Your Subscribers

The first step towards utilising Mailchimp effectively is consolidating your subscriber list.

This can be done by importing your contacts from a spreadsheet application. Microsoft Excel is a good option; you can order your contacts based on location or business category, along with all the other relevant information, and import it, meaning all your data is uniform and orderly.

It's important to ensure that your subscriber list is clean and up-to-date. Regularly removing inactive subscribers within Mailchimp can improve your open rates and overall performance.

The second step is to 'tag' your contacts with the relevant category information, so you can choose which audience you want your email campaign sent to.

You might want certain emails sent to businesses within a 5-mile radius, or discount codes sent to your regular customers/clients.

2. Authenticate Your Domain

Next, it's crucial to authenticate your domain in Mailchimp.

Authenticating your domain can help improve your deliverability and ensure that your emails reach your subscribers' inboxes.

Not doing this might result in your emails landing in the spam folder, which is a situation we all want to avoid.

One of the great things about Mailchimp is its vast array of pre-designed templates.

These templates can be customised to align with your brand image, allowing you to create professional-looking emails without needing advanced design skills.

Remember, the more attractive and professional your emails look, the more likely they are to be read.

Before hitting the 'send' button, make sure to preview and test your emails.

This ensures that all links are working correctly and there are no missing data or broken elements. It's always better to catch any mistakes before your subscribers do.

For example, your email could look great on a desktop, but utterly sh*t on a mobile device. Checking first means you don't look like an unprofessional idiot later.

Automation is a powerful feature offered by Mailchimp. With automation, you can set up a series of emails to be sent out based on specific triggers, saving you time and ensuring consistent communication with your audience.

For example, you might set up a welcome series for new subscribers, or a re-engagement campaign for inactive ones.
